As someone who plans to study abroad next fall (keeping fingers crossed that my application gets accepted) I decided to start doing some study abroad series posts. Since I’m already doing a ton of research before I leave, I figured relaying this help to you guys in one location could help! Here are nine of the best cities to visit in Europe.

If my application is approved, this will be my home away from home! As someone who loves history, Rome being home base is my dream.
Popular places: Vatican City, The Colusseum
Must Try: The food and gelato!
Paris is a dream destination for many, especially those looking for love. Many say it is a “must see” in Europe. Between the history, fashion, and food, what isn’t there to love?
Popular places: The Louvre(free to students on Fridays after 4:30pm), The Sun Palace, and of course, The Eiffel Tower
Hidden Gems: Pari Roller-the opportunity to rollerskate around the city for 3 hours every Friday night!
Tips: Have a map of the Metro on you at all times
Scenery, architechure, beaches, oh my! Don’t miss this hot spot if you are looking for a great nightlife!
Popular places: La Sagrada Familia, Picasso Museum, Las Ramblas street, Barrio Gotico, and the beach.
Hidden Gems: the open air markets
Tips: Make sure you research your hostel really well.
London, United Kingdom
Nothing can be compared to London. It’s a business and culture hub. From advice, don’t try to just see London in a weekend, or if you do, make sure it is jam packed.
Popular Places: The London Eye, Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, and of course, Platform 9 ¾!!
Hidden Gems: the open air market under the London Eye
Tips: the underground trains are confusing, carry a map, but you’ll probably still get lost more than once.
Although currently poplar because of the bench from The Fault in Our Stars, Amsterdam is commonly known for its history.
Popular Places: Red Light District, Van Gogh Museum, “The Bench”, Anne Frank House
Hidden Gems: Café Menus
Tips: No cameras are allowed in the Red Light District and use common sense if you decide to venture to this part of the city.
Ireland isn’t as directly connected as most other countries in Europe when it comes to the mainland, so it has a different vibe. The people are friendly and it’s a gorgeous country. It has a fantastic walking tour, lots and lots of bars, and fun night life.
Popular Places: The Guinness Factory, Trinity College, The Temple Bar
Hidden Gems: The bars that aren’t right in the tourists line of sight.
Tips: Make sure you are aware of the Euro exchange rate before you go out for the night so you don’t spend far more than you expected.
The home of the Gods! This place is dripping with history, plenty of which you have learned about since you were young.
Popular Places: Athena’s Temple, the Acropolis, Cape of Sounion, the Temple of Poseidon
Hidden Gems: Free bike tours, Syntagma Square
Tips: try walking around at night, the city completely changes when the sun goes down.
Istanbul is said to be one of the most energetic and hippest cities in Europe. It has tons of bars, galleries, and clubs. It’s also a hug fashion hub.

Hidden Gems: Local Bars
Tips: Bring sunscreen
While Rome is the old, Milan is the new. Both are fantastic in their own way. It’s a hub for fashion, cars, and movies. Take a break and relax on the beach, or window shop through one of the most expensive shopping area’s in Europe.

Hidden Gems: the funky design district of Isola.
Tips: Catch some Calcio!
