My entire life can fit into one picture.
That was something I said to my roommate today as I packed up all of my belongings in the end of the year move-out bustle. After thinking about it, I realized I was completely wrong.
If this year has taught me anything, it’s that my life isn’t in that picture at all. I’ve learned that I need very little to be happy.
And all of the stuff in this picture isn’t what I need. It isn’t my life or my happiness.
My life and happiness are the people I get to spend my time with and the experiences I am able to encounter. My life is every little smile, hug given, cupcake eaten, photo taken, or song sung.
My life is happy, wonder filled, and busy, but that’s just the way I like it. It’s constantly filled with the people I love, the places that feel like home, and the sounds that make me smile.
I guess I’m just trying to say, don’t only focus on all the stuff. The papers, exams, dining hall food, and rain. Don’t focus on the fact that you ran out of dry shampoo, or that your computer battery died. They are all just things.
Yes, most of us have finals right now. They are stressful and tear provoking, but they will be over soon. Don’t let your worry ruin you enjoying your moments. College is flying by, so take time to have dinner with your friends before you leave, go on one last adventure, or even take a slew of crazy pictures.
Take time to figure out what makes you live. Change your perspective.
Hang in there love bugs! Be kind to yourself, you are doing the best you can.
