You start college and everything is great. You have money that you saved up from the summer before, you are transitioning to a real functioning adult on training wheels, and money is the least of your worries.
Fast forward to the semester break-you realize your money might not make it through the entire year. You start looking for a job. Even if your money isn’t running low, you’ve been ambushed by the buzzword, “internships” for a couple months now and are ready to get your first job in college off of your chest.
So, how do you even start? With a class schedule that is at weird times, and all of your homework, how do you find the perfect part time job that you can balance with your schoolwork? Here are a couple different options on how to earn some extra cash by finding the perfect college job.
1. On-Campus Jobs
This is just a part of what I did. Even if you don’t have work study, there are still plenty of jobs that you should be able to find on campus. The best part of this is that since they are on campus, they are typically really great about working around your class schedule and you don’t have to commute anywhere to go to work. I work as a student ambassador and tour guide on my campus and I absolutely love it. It fits in my schedule so well. While I can’t say for sure how you can find out about these sort of jobs on your campus, Loyola has a website where all of our campus jobs are posted, so try to figure out if you campus has a resource that is similar.
This website is my SAVIOR. I can’t say enough about how great this website is. You simply sign up with your .edu email address and it gives you jobs and internships based on the school you go to and your major-stuff that will look GREAT on your resume. These are all businesses that want students from your school specifically and is a great resource when it comes time to find an internship. Even better, Campusjob has jobs and internships for not only the school year but also over the summer-you’ll find that the summer ones even include jobs like being a writer in NYC for a magazine! If you are a college student, you should be on this website. I cannot say enough.
3. Get an Online Job.
This is something that I do as well. I got two of my online jobs through Campusjob, but another great option is to do online surveys. The great thing about online jobs is that they work with your schedule perfectly and you don’t have to go outside to do them. One of my favorite websites to take surveys on to get paid for is CashCrate, but be careful when searching for websites to do this on, make sure you aren’t on one that is a scam. Be safe, kids. CashCrate is awesome because they send you your check every time you reach $20. Easy cash in your pocket.
So that’s about all I do to get a job in college-the important thing to remember is to make sure school comes first! You are paying for college, so don’t let you GPA drop because you are spread too thin from your job.
